Grants to a USA investigator and an Israel investigator to support collaborative research studies related to specific diseases. Applicants must submit a Letter of Intent prior to submission of a full application. Funding is intended to support projects that relate to the following topics: (1) Cancers driven by fusion oncoproteins with Ewing sarcoma as the prototype; (2) The roles of epigenetic dysfunction or tumor microenvironment in the development of metastatic cancer.

Recipients of these awards are encouraged to develop collaborations with other investigators to continue scientific interactions beyond the term of their grant and form a society of investigators committed to:


  • Formulation of research plans to augment other SWCRF/ICRF/ABSF research programs
  • Sharing of research materials, reagents, and/or core resources
  • Joint publications
  • Development of NIH program project grants (P01s) and/or collaborative R01s 


  • Presentation at an annual Scientific Review Meeting hosted by the SWCRF
  • Subgroup meetings at professional meetings such as ASH, AACR and CTOS

$125,000 total will be awarded to a USA based investigator and $125,000 to an Israeli investigator.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Directors of cancer research programs in the USA and Israel are invited to apply.

Each center may nominate one Principal Investigator with an Israel-based collaborator to apply.

ICRF funds for cancer research are available to citizens of Israel, both native-born and those who have settled. Funds are not available to visiting scientists. (Proof of Israeli citizenship must be furnished upon request.)

Pre-Application Information:

In order to apply for this new grant category, a Letter of Intent (LOI) is required. The deadline for LOIs is March 15, 2020.

A limited number of applicants whose Letters of Intent are deemed most meritorious will be invited to submit full research proposals and compete for the available grants by April 15, 2020. The deadline for full applications is June 1, 2020.

Funding decisions will be made by July 1, 2020.
