Grant Description
Grants of up to $5,000 to Nevada nonprofit organizations, government agencies, schools, tribal entities, and faith-based organizations in eligible locations for community service programs. Funding is intended for projects in the focus areas of diversity, environment, and education. Eligible applicants operate in the Cox Las Vegas Service Areas of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, and Boulder City.

This is a special opportunity to receive funding for programs that support one or more of Cox Charities’ three philanthropic cornerstones:

  • Education, with a priority on K-12 and STEAM
  • Diversity, with a priority on programs serving 80% of more of a target population or serve an inclusion, diversity and equity initiative); and
  • Environment/Sustainability programs, with a priority on water conservation, waste or carbon reduction.

Cox Charities will fund only program-related expenses, including activities, materials and supplies that are directly related to the provision of services, etc., restricted to local needs in Nevada.

Cox Charities is particularly interested in organizations that:

  • Illustrate strong civic leadership.
  • Practice and demonstrate sound administrative and fiscal management.
  • Work with other agencies and/or leverage other funding in the public and private sectors to achieve the mission.
  • Measure and continuously evaluate the effectiveness of its program(s).
  • Fill a recognized need in the community without duplication of efforts.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Eligible nonprofit organizations are those that operate in the Cox Las Vegas Service Areas of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, and Boulder City, Nevada.

Cox Charities will consider applications from organizations that:
- Be in good standing with the IRS at the time of review or else the submitted application(s) will be immediately declined.
- Any Nevada 501(c)(3) organization, government agency, and tribal entity that operates with fiscal accountability and responsibility are eligible. Religious organizations may apply for funding of non-sectarian programs.
- Organizations without 501(c)(3) status must use a fiscal agent or sponsor to apply on their behalf. Fiscal agents or sponsors must be a 501(c)(3) organization.
- Demonstrate a non-discrimination policy regarding staff, employment, governing board, and service delivery based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, or national origin, and provide evidence of the policy.
- Serve within the Cox Las Vegas Service Areas: Boulder City, Henderson, Las Vegas, and North Las Vegas, Nevada.
- Provide opportunities for Cox Communications Las Vegas employees to engage as volunteers and/or to serve on the organization’s Board of Directors.
- Will acknowledge Cox Charities’ support publicly.

Ineligible
Exclusionary Criteria:
- Cox Charities will NOT consider applications from organizations that discriminate in their employment practices, volunteer opportunities, or delivery of programs and services on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or identity, and any other characteristics considered as a protected class under current United States law.
- Cox Charities does not directly fund program administrative costs, supplies, or general funds for individual public, private, or charter schools.
- Cox Charities does not fund general or capital campaigns.

Funding will not be given for general operations or staff salaries/wages.

Timeline for the 2023 Grant Cycle:
- Grant Cycle opens on May 1, 2023, at 9 AM Pacific Time.
- Applications are due by May 26, 2023, at 5 pm.
- Awards will be announced in September 2023.

Individual grants typically range from $1,000 to $5,000.
