Awards of $5,000 to Southern Nevada public school teachers in eligible counties to recognize and honor outstanding educators. Awards are intended to acknowledge teachers who inspire others by going beyond the call of duty and make a significant difference in their students' lives. Eligible nominees must have completed at least three consecutive school years of teaching in the Clark County School District by the date of their application submission.

Students, alumni, colleagues, parents, PTA members, and community leaders or anyone who is not related to the teacher and who knows his/her work can nominate educators.  

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, along with The Rogers Foundation, launched The Heart of Education Awards with the goal of honoring, recruiting and retaining great educators in Southern Nevada.

Number of Grants:

The number of Finalists is dependent upon the number of qualified applicants and will not exceed 850. There will be 20 top winners.

Estimated Size of Grant:

All finalists in attendance will receive a swag bag. The event will include the announcement of the top 20 winners selected to receive the award, which includes a cash gift of $5,000. Each winner’s school will also receive a cash gift of $1,000, to be used for a program selected by the winning teacher.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible, nominees must be CCSD licensed, full-time teachers in good standing who have completed three consecutive years of teaching in the Clark County School District by the date of their application submission may apply. Teachers in after-school, private schools or studios, Charter schools or other educational settings are not eligible at this time. Substitute teachers are not eligible.

Winners of previous Heart of Education cash awards are not eligible for three years following their award.

Pre-Application Information:

A nomination may be submitted by a student, alumnus, parent, colleague, PTA member, community leader or anyone who is not related to the teacher and who knows his/her work. Nominations open on October 1, 2019. Nomination forms must be submitted online by 5 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2020.

Once a nomination has been submitted, the nominated teacher will receive an electronic notification via email. The teacher must follow the provided link to apply online for The Heart of Education Awards. Teachers will be asked to submit a 500-word-or-less essay describing how their passion for education has resulted in their outstanding efforts. Nominated teachers submit one application, and all applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2020.

Finalists will be notified via email in Spring 2020. Each finalist will receive a total of two tickets for The Heart of Education awards: one for themselves and one for their accompanying guest. The Heart of Education Awards is scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2020 at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts.
