Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $1,000 to USA state and county farm bureaus for K-12 classroom agricultural literacy projects and programs. Funding may be requested to start new or expand existing agricultural literacy programs. Priority will be given to programs that demonstrate a need for financial support. The intent is to build capacity by funding items that can be used repeatedly.

Projects should:

  • Enhance learner engagement in today’s food, fiber, and fuel system
  • Creatively engage students in a manner that encourages them to learn more about agriculture
  • Have a complete narrative and include well thought out plan, goals, timeline, and budget 
  • Expand on current agricultural literacy efforts (additional grades, audiences, new subjects, etc.)
  • Indicate specifically how the project aligns with The Pillars of Agricultural Literacy. Information about The Pillars of Agricultural Literacy can be seen at: https://www.agfoundation.org/pillars

Estimated Size of Grant:

Mini-grants are offered in amounts up to $1,000.

Term of Contract:

Cycle 1 is for Spring/Summer programs.
Cycle 2 is for Fall/Winter programs.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Mini-grants are offered to state and county Farm Bureaus.

Grant payments can be made only to a state or county Farm Bureau. Payments cannot be made to individuals or to other organizations.

Funding is not available for mileage, field trips, wages and benefits, safety programs or one-time consumable products such as copying, paper, seeds or meals.

This program is not to address farm safety education.

Pre-Application Information:

There will be two application cycles throughout the year.

Cycle 1:
- Applications will be due October 15.
- Farm Bureaus have until Nov 1 to approve grants.
- Recipients will be notified by early January for February through July projects.
- Initial funding will be issued by February.
- Reports will be due by November 30 the following year and final payments processed.

Cycle 2:
- Applications will be due May 30.
- Farm Bureaus have until May 1 to approve grants.
- Recipients will be notified by early July for August through December projects
- Initial funding will be issued by August.
- Reports will be due by May 31 the following year and final payments processed.

Mini-grant applications must be completed and submitted via online submission. The Foundation will send applications to the state Farm Bureau official administrator or agricultural literacy coordinator for approval.
