Grants of $5,000 to Nevada individual artists to recognize exceptional artistic achievements. Applications will be accepted from artists involved in the performing and literary arts, including areas such as music, theater, choreography, creative prose, and poetry. Funding is intended to promote public awareness and appreciation of the role of the artist in society.

The Fiscal Year 2021 (FY21) Artist Fellowship Grant (AFG) from the Nevada Arts Council (NAC) recognizes outstanding literary and performing artists living in Nevada who demonstrate excellence in their work. 

In FY21, applications for the Artist Fellowships Grant are accepted in the following categories:

Literary Arts:

  1. Creative Prose(Fiction/Nonfiction): literary work in all varieties and genres, such as excerpts from fiction novels, short stories, and writing for young adults.
  2. Dramatic Writing: includes original stage plays, screenplays, radio plays and audio dramas.
  3. Poetry: includes original work in all forms and genres of poetry.

Performing Arts:

  1. Choreography/Theater Direction: includes original choreography in all dance forms including ballet, hip-hop, jazz, modern, and tap. Also includes theater direction of a play, opera, musical, or a devised piece of work.
  2. Music Composition: includes original composition in all musical genres including chamber, choral, electronic, experimental, jazz, opera and symphonic.
  3. Music/Theater/ Storytelling Peformance: includes original work from performance artists including dance, country/jazz/rock/opera/pop music, theater and musical theater, mime, puppetry, spoken word and storytelling

To receive the remaining 10% of the award, grantees must complete a public outreach activity in Nevada that is relevant to their artistic discipline no later than May 15, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant requirements:
- Must be a current Nevada resident and have been in residence for at least one year prior to the date of the grant application
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have legal resident status
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must not be enrolled as degree-seeking student
- Individual artists must be actively practicing in the discipline reflected in their resume/biography and have an ongoing commitment to their art form.
- Artists working in collaboration or in groups must apply as individuals.

The following costs are non-allowable:

- Any portion of a project that duplicates costs in grants pending with, or received directly from, the National Endowment for the Arts
- Any portion of the same project in multiple grant applications
- Any portion of completed projects
- Capital expenditures for land or general-purpose equipment with a cost over $2,500
- Cash prizes
- Competition awards
- Fees for filing for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service
- Fines, penalties, or debt collection costs
- Travel outside Canada, Mexico, the United States, and its territories and possessions
- Fundraising efforts or the money spent in order to raise additional funds (such as social events and benefits)
- Hospitality or entertainment expenses (including food, beverages and gratuities for openings, receptions, parties or other hospitality functions)
- Journalism, historical or academic documentary film, and electronic media arts that do NOT demonstrate significant artistic emphasis, - consideration, and distinction
- Legal fees or litigation costs
- Lobbying expenses
- Preparation for, or travel to, competitions (except for Poetry Out Loud participants)
- Projects with implicit religious content that may be perceived as advancing a religious purpose
- Publication subvention
- Reduction of debt including interest expenses paid on loans, debts, or borrowed capital
- Renovation, remodeling, restoration, or new construction
- Reserve funds
- Salaries and overhead of government agencies, public institutions, and public and private schools, colleges, and universities
- Student scholarships for academic credit or awards for student work
